Adventure Day 4 - 2/25/09

In our Adventure we are attempting to establish the good habit of reflecting on God's Word every day. For some this has already become a part of your routine for years. For others, it is like starting from scratch. What is easy for some is difficult and life-changing for others. Each of us is obviously in a different place as we begin these seven weeks of study. Nevertheless, it usually takes about four weeks to establish a new habit... so whether you are new to daily reading of Scripture, or the discipline is already well established in your life, this habit should be well reinforced after our 50 days of shared study.

And we're not "just" reading a chapter a day... I hope you are also taking time to reflect on what has been read, or meditating on God's Word. My hunch is that these weeks of studying together will stretch all of us beyond what we might expect.

Today's apocalyptic Scripture reading is from Daniel 2:1-49. It's a familiar story about Daniel and his friends, in this chapter referred by their Hebrew names (they are better known by their Babylonian names: Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego).

Make sure to reflect on Daniel's appeal to his friends (v. 17ff.), and the wonderful prayer Daniel prays when the vision is given revealing the King's mysterious dream (v. 20 ff.). Do you understand whose Kingdom is represented by the rock cut out of the mountain that filled the whole earth (see v. 44)? What does this chapter have to say to us today?
