Adventure Day 20 - 3/13/09

The record of Korah's rebellion continues with today's Adventure passage [Read Numbers 16:23-40]. What do these verses say to you? For me, they speak about Moses' courageous leadership and advocacy among the people God gave him to shepherd. Also, they address the seriousness of sin/rebellion, the tragic consequences of sin (not just for the ones rebelling, but for others in their network of relationships - note vv. 27 & 32), and God's holy wrath against rebellious pride. Passages in Scripture that emphasize God's love and forgiveness are even more cherished when understood against the backdrop of passages like this displaying the Lord's power, holiness, justice and righteousness.

Questions to Ponder: Have we so emphasized the love of God in our generation of living the Christian Faith that we have lost a healthy sense of the fear of the Lord? What role does daily confession of sin to God in prayer have in your life? Have you considered the cost of the current sin dearest to you (...the cost not only to yourself, but to those in your circle of relationships)? Are you interceding/advocating to God on behalf of another who is captive to sin, seeking the Lord's mercy and power for that person to be released from sin's bondage? Are we praying for God's protection of the innocent from the consequences of others' sins?
