Adventure Day 33 - 3/26/09
Hello Fellow Adventurers!
Isaiah, the Old Testament prophet, gave this word to God's people which is still true today, since it reflects the nature of God and of true revival: "I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you" (Isaiah 48:17). How much better off the nation of Israel could have been had she taken these words to heart. The same is true in our generation. God desires to teach us what is best...his way represents the best that life has to offer. Will we believe his Word, obey, and then experience a wave of awakening in our time?
Today's Adventure Scripture reading is the Parable of the Two Sons [Read Matthew 21:28-32]. Jesus told the parable to remind those who claimed to be servants of God that true loyalty is expressed in service, not mere words. One characteristic of a revived church is a new passion for service in Christ's name...not just talk, but real action. There is an old saying that in the average church, 20% of the people do 80% of the work. Assuming there is some truth to this, what factors might move a church from this rather sad average toward a more vital "new normal"? In what ways are you presently answering the Lord's request to "...go out and work in the vineyard today"?
In your faithful service today, may you discover that responding in obedient action to the Lord's invitation to serve is indeed living into the best life has to offer.
God's Peace, Fellow Servant...
Pastor Paul
