Adventure Day 28 - 3/21/09
Once again I greet you from Bethel University's campus, where I am enjoying learning about the historical connections of the Covenant, Free Church and General Conference Baptists...and particularly the influence of the Pietist Movement on our heritage. I'm having a great time!
Today's Adventure text is basically an obituary. In it, the Apostle John reports on some future time when the whole world will be amazed at the sudden destruction of a world power that was both the source of great wealth and evil. [Read Revelation 18:1-24].
Verses 10 & 17 indicate that the destruction will take place in "a single hour," burned with fire as a judgment from God...completely destroyed. This apocalypic writing in Revelation is really quite amazing, eh? It stretches the imagination, for sure! What/who is this "Babylon"? Is this destruction a meteor hit, an atomic war? Whatever the specifics, the clear truth is that "God remembers her iniquities...and pays back on herself what she herself has done to others" (vv. 5,6).... God executing vengence, particularly for the crimes committed against his followers (vv.20,24).
God, the God of Justice...will make all things right!
God's Peace,
Pastor Paul
